Featured Prams & Pushchairs
Pause for Thought!
Before buying your pram or pushchair, THINK!- What is your lifestyle? Do you walk to the local supermarket? Use the car a lot for short journeys? Or perhaps use public transport?
- Do you have other young children
- Are you exceptionally tall or short? If so then look for easily adjustable handle bars
- Do you want a pram that doubles up as a pushchair in readiness for when the baby gets bigger?
- Affordability
Recent research has shown, although common sense, that parent facing pushchairs are better for babies as they have the reassurance of seeing their parents whilst being pushed (rather than the stress of watching other pedestrians looming up and no sight of your trusted guardians!).
The forward facing Maclaren buggies are more suited for slightly older children that have progressed and are reassured with forward facing travel without eye contact with the parent.
What Would I Buy?
Before answering the question "what would I buy?" I will tell you why I bought a Bugaboo Cameleon. The Bugaboo appealed to me because:- it was different
- loads of bright colours to choose from (we bought red & yellow to depict Noddy's car)
- suitable from birth due to the flat carry cot
- converted in to a pushchair (both forward and parent facing)
- all fabric was machine washable
- easily foldable and transportable
- Once a pushchair, its still adjusts so that your toddler can sleep in comfort
- Useful sized basket underneath the seat to carry shopping without affacting the stability of the pushchair. Many parents load their bags on the handles of the pushchair and when they forget and let go, the pushchair and baby tip up and backwards.
Reviewing what is on the market today, I would consider buying the Mothercare mychoice 4 wheeler pushchair and then add the extras when you need them. I reckon that like for like you will save yourself £400 or more that could be better spent on other essentials such as a steriliser, baby clothes, baby monitors, baby soap etc...
For 80%-90% of the time the more comfortable and protective Mothercare mychoice is suitable for your needs. However, like we found with the Bugaboo, you will also need the lightweight buggy for easy for portability when you are cluttered with other items. There is only one buggy that has stood the test of time with parents and that is Maclaren.
Another popular brand is Quinny, although if you are looking for a pushchair with cot this brand is rather expensive.
Finally, if you have a toddler and a baby, then a popular brand with parents is Phil & Teds. These pushchairs enable both children to be pushed at the same time in confort, without the downsides attached with having a double width pushchair.
